Shrek is a 2001 American computer-animated comedy film produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Paramount Pictures. The film is loosely based on William Steig's 1990 fairy tale picture book Shrek!. Shrek stars Mike Myers as the voice of the title character, a green ogre who finds his swamp invaded by fairy tale creatures who have been banished from their kingdom by Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow). Together with a talking donkey (Eddie Murphy), Shrek sets out to rescue Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) from Farquaad so that he will take the fairy tale creatures off his swamp.

Shrek was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $484 million worldwide and garnering widespread acclaim for its animation, humor, and voice acting. Shrek is considered one of the greatest animated films ever made.
