How to Remove Acrylic Nails at Home Safely
Before You Start
To safely remove acrylic nails at home, you'll need the following:
- 100% Pure Acetone Nail Polish Remover
- Nail clippers
- Cuticle stick or pusher
- Nail soaking tray or bowl
- Petroleum jelly or oil
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Trim the Acrylic Nails
Using nail clippers, trim down the acrylic nails as much as possible. This will help the acetone penetrate the remaining acrylic more effectively.
2. Soak the Nails
Fill the nail soaking tray or bowl with acetone. Immerse your nails in the acetone for 5 to 10 minutes. Check the nails every few minutes to see if the acrylic is starting to soften.
3. Use a Cuticle Stick
After the nails have been soaking, gently test a nail with a cuticle stick or pusher. If the acrylic is soft enough, it should start to lift from the natural nail.
4. Protect the Skin
Apply petroleum jelly or oil liberally around your nails to protect your skin from the drying effects of the acetone.
5. Remove the Acrylic
Using a cuticle stick or pusher, gently scrape off the softened acrylic from the natural nail. Work slowly and carefully to avoid damaging the natural nails.
6. Clean and Moisturize
Once all the acrylic has been removed, clean your nails with warm water and soap. Apply moisturizer to help restore moisture to your skin and nails.
